ASUU Declares Strike Over Unpaid Salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of June 2025 salary.

From midnight on Friday, July 4th, ASUU members in UNIJOS will down tools and suspend all academic activities, including lectures and meetings.

In a statement released to journalists in Jos on Thursday, the Chairman of ASUU UNIJOS, Professor Jurbe Molwus, said the decision followed a resolution reached during their congress held on June 4th, 2025.

According to Professor Molwus, the strike is fully backed by a standing directive from ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The NEC had earlier instructed all branches to take immediate action if salaries were not paid by the third day of a new month.

So, the UNIJOS chapter is simply implementing that national resolution.

He also reminded members of the local congress resolution held on June 4, which affirmed this position.

And now that the Federal Government has failed to credit their June salary account, the union says there is no going back.

Prof. Molwus didn’t stop there.

He made it clear that a strike monitoring team will be on ground to ensure members fully comply.
