The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) branch, has issued a stern warning to JAMB, threatening legal action over what it describes as “fake statistics” and deliberate massive failure in the 2025 UTME.
Speaking to journalists in Nsukka on Wednesday, the Chairman of ASUU-UNN, Comrade Óyibo Eze, alleged that the failure mostly affected candidates from the South East and described the outcome as a targeted attack against students from the region.
“My office has been flooded with complaints, phone calls, and visits from distressed parents and members of the public,” Eze said.
“There’s widespread belief that this year’s JAMB result was manipulated to frustrate students from the South East.”
He argued that many candidates from the South East and Lagos, where a large number of Igbos reside, scored below 200, and this anomaly must be investigated.
Eze accused JAMB of deliberately disadvantaging Igbo candidates who, according to him, are expected to score significantly higher than others to gain admission.
“Children from some regions gain admission into Medicine with scores as low as 120, but our children in the East must exceed 250 to even be considered.
Now you’re telling me students from schools known for excellence all scored under 200? That is unbelievable,” he said.
In the 2025 UTME, JAMB announced that over 1.5 million candidates out of 1.9 million scored below 200, a statistic which sparked outrage across the country.
Eze went further to warn that ASUU may approach a High Court to challenge the validity of the results if JAMB fails to review the 2025 UTME scores and correct the alleged injustice.
