JAMB Announces Mop-Up Exam for 2025 UTME Absent Candidates, and reprinting for those who missed their exam is ongoing.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a mop-up examination will be conducted for candidates who missed the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The announcement was made by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.
He disclosed that this special examination is aimed at covering the over 5.6% of registered candidates who were unable to sit for the initial UTME, regardless of the reason behind their absence.
“This time, we are creating a new mop-up.
Even those who missed the earlier exam due to absence will get another opportunity,” the JAMB boss stated.
Prof. Oloyede explained that organising a make-up test is a standard practice in any serious educational system and is not an extraordinary measure.
According to him, such a move ensures no qualified candidate is left behind in the admission process.
The Registrar also clarified that UTME is not a test of intelligence, but rather a ranking tool to determine which candidates should be admitted into higher institutions based on the available slots.
“Its purpose is to rank candidates for limited admission slots, not to test how smart someone is,” he added.
Addressing public concerns and various conspiracy theories, especially on social media, Prof. Oloyede firmly denied allegations of ethnic bias or administrative failure.
He stressed that leadership demands accountability and urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic profiling.
