Miva Open University Launches JAMB CBT Centre in Lagos to Tackle Admission Crisis.
Miva Open University has officially launched its JAMB CBT Centre in Lagos as part of a bold move to tackle the country’s ongoing university admission crisis.
This development is part of Miva’s mission to expand access to quality tertiary education through technology-driven solutions and a blended learning model.
The launch event took place at the University’s Lagos Study Centre in Yaba.
Speaking at the event, Sim Shagaya, Chancellor of Miva Open University and Group CEO of uLesson, highlighted the urgent need to address the mismatch between qualified candidates and available university spaces in Nigeria.
“Every year, over two million young Nigerians write the UTME,” Shagaya stated.
“Roughly 1.5 million of them actually qualify for admission, but only about 600,000 slots exist in our traditional universities.
That means nearly 900,000 eligible students are left behind not because they failed, but because there’s simply no room.”
According to Shagaya, Miva’s solution is a forward-thinking ‘blended learning’ model, which combines the power of online education with the structure and discipline of physical learning centres.
This hybrid approach allows students to learn at their own pace online, while also benefiting from in-person academic support at strategically placed centres across the country, starting with Lagos.
