The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has commenced accreditation for 19 academic programmes at the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, in Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
Leading the NBTE team, Dr (Mrs) Fatima Umar, who serves as the Director of Programmes for Polytechnics, emphasised that while the board would assess the programmes fairly and thoroughly, it would not compromise academic standards.
“Let me appreciate the Rector for what she has done.
We are here to see what they have put in place in relation to the 19 programmes.
We will look at everything with a passionate eye, but we will not compromise standards for the benefit of Nigerian students,” Dr Umar stated during Thursday’s visit.
She noted that the team would conduct a comprehensive assessment to ensure the courses meet current academic and industry demands.
In her address, the institution’s rector, Mrs Eduma Essien, expressed deep appreciation to NBTE and its leadership for the opportunity to present the school’s programmes for review.
“I want to thank God specifically that in three months as Rector of this institution, we have presented 19 programmes for accreditation.
I also want to thank the Executive Secretary for granting us this opportunity; he has done so much,” she said.
Mrs Essien also acknowledged Dr Umar and her team for their commitment and expressed optimism that the review would yield positive results.
This development is expected to further position Federal Polytechnic Ukana as a hub of quality technical and vocational education in Nigeria, aligning with national goals of producing industry-ready graduates.
